transfers

Greg Hamaoka

Hello all. A few months ago I posted a question on this list server concerning self-made transfers for orthotic devices. I was looking for people who made their own transfers and what type of inks and paper they used. I didn’t receive many responses to this post, only requests that I post my findings. One of the orthotists I work with searched the web and came up with sublimation ink as a possibility. Haven’t come up with any possible types of paper yet. We checked the web and found some companies that sold this type of ink. One company recommended that you have a dedicated printer for these inks and a basic start up package they offer cost about $2000.00. That’s a bit pricey to find out it doesn’t work. Also, I’ve been told that one would have to have specific computer software too.

Our next step is to find a print shop that is set up with this type of system, so we can have some test transfers made up. If it works, we could then consider buying the printer and inks. We are still looking into this.

My first question today is: Does anyone have any experiences with this
type of ink? Could this ink work?

My second question: I was wondering if anyone has access to this type of
system. If you do, could you have a test transfer
made up and tried on an AFO. If it works/not please post your results or e-mail me.

Thanks in advance
