I apologize for not having my original question, but in summary, it asked=
for suggestions on fabrication techniques and ORIGINAL ideas for a prost=
hesis for a farmer with a unilateral transcarpal amputation. I want to s=
end an extra special thank you for those of you who took the time to send=
me photos. A picture is worth a thousand words. I received many good s=
uggestions. I asked for ease of fabrication and wanted heavy duty with n=
o concern for cosmesis. =20
The responses that I found most helpful were those suggesting a plastic o=
rthosis-type wrist appliance with an intregal hook and opponens piece cre=
ated with the plastic at the distal end. The opponens piece shaped in ho=
ok form gave dual purpose. And this technique was easy enough that we co=
uld replace a broken one quite easily.
The bad news is that our patient developed some bone spurs in is awaiting=
further surgery. If we ever do fabricate this device, I will post a mes=
sage to let everyone know how things turned out. Thanks again to everyon=
e who responded!
