Hello to all,
The good news is I am getting an attachment to a 200 bed hospital as a
consulting P&O. They have a fulfleged PT and OT centre already.
Now I do not know what terms I will be offered ! I should be ready with
my set of terms. Right ?
But I cannot think of making any demands. Can you give me definate
guidlines on what to give and get ? Since our profession is so unique,
they do not have any experience in setting the terms either. I want to
have a fair deal give and take. The person whom I will disucss this is
said to be a hard nosed negotiator.
You can advice me in terms of :
1. Place and equipments that the hospital should invest into for my
work. What sort of equipment I should have there ?
2. Method of patients referals. There are 4 MS Orths there. Some are
available on odd times when I may not be availabe for consulation. How
can such patients be refered to me. Or should I go to the hospital on
emergency call ?
3. What will be my method of charging the patients.
4. How do I pay back to the hospital. Comission per patient or flat
fixed value. But how dose one compute such fixed value ?
5. In PT & OT they pay in the ratio of 60:40. But I have appliances to
make and give so this ratio will not work. Now what ?
6. Any suggestion for layout ? Like Plaster room, gait training section
etc.
7. Do I need a full-time assistant ? Who pays for him/her ?
8. What I should not do or which terms I should not accept ?
9. There are always ready made products available. So should I sell them
to the patients and also charge my consulting charges or let them
arrange for the devices from outside. But what will they know what I
need so how will keep stock of such appliances?
10. How can I know which Orth surgeons needs what and how do I interact
with those whom I do not meet normally.
11. What sort of precent (%) markup should be added on the cost of a
product ?
12. Any other special advice or tips ?
I hope that my posting this to you all is not a problem. I consider you
as my extended family of well-wishers. You may ignore my query if you
are busy. You can give me a detailed reply based on you experience as
practitioners. But even a single line of advice from you in any area is
most valuable to me. If you have any advice, dispense it. Please.
