Open Bionics, Bristol, England, raised $5.9 million in Series A funding to advance its 3D-printed prosthetic hand. The Series A round was led by Foresight Williams Technology EIS Fund, joined by Ananda Impact Ventures and Downing Ventures, which continued to support the company with follow-on funding from their seed round.
Open Bionics says it has achieved a price point that makes the device affordable enough to be covered by healthcare systems in major western markets. It expects to begin delivering the bionic hands in the United States later this year, according to Samantha Payne, the company’s cofounder and COO.
Aside from financial backing, the company will receive engineering, technology, and commercialization advice, investment management, and growth information from the investors.
