Ottobock, Duderstadt, Germany, has launched Ottobock Industrials, a business unit that will produce exoskeletons for use in the manufacturing industry. Sönke Rössing, PhD, formerly Ottobock’s chief strategy and human resources officer, will be the unit’s CEO.
One of the first product areas for Ottobock Industrials will be exoskeletons for overhead and above-shoulder work. The orthotic assistance system, called Paexo, is being tested by 30 employees in series production at auto maker Volkswagen, which is the largest long-term pilot test of exoskeletons in Europe, according to Volkswagen.
