Since the Olympics claimed so much of our attention these last two weeks, we asked our followers what they’d do while in Paris. Of those who responded to our question on LinkedIn about what they would you do first in Paris, 69 percent said they’d visit the Eiffel Tower, 19 percent said they would walk the Champs-Élysée; 6 percent said they’d visit the Mona Lisa at the Louvre Museum, and 6 percent said they’d go for a swim in the River Seine.
Our Olympic-related question last week was Who was your favorite Olympian from the past? Gymnast Simone Biles edged out swimmer Michael Phelps 48 percent to 42 percent, respectively. Swimmer Mark Spitz claimed the other 10 percent of our followers’ votes. Spitz was the most successful athlete at the 1972 Summer Olympics, winning seven gold medals, each in world-record time. His record lasted 36 years, until it was surpassed by Phelps.
Now that the games are nearing the end, we’ve shifted our focus back to O&P (at least until the Paralympics start on August 28). Our question this week focuses on an article coming in the September issue about hiring practices in O&P. A recent survey of about 1,300 talent professionals reported that more than 90 percent said that soft skills can at least as important in a job interview than hard skills. That leads to our latest question: Which soft skills do you think are the best indicators of a candidate’s qualifications?” It’s up and in full swing. So far, most everyone says one of the best soft skills a candidate could have is being adaptable.
Tell us what you think. We’d love to hear from you.
