When it comes to fabricating O&P devices, facilities typically choose to outsource fabrication or complete the work in-house. Many choose a combination of the two. Of those who responded to our most recent poll question, What does your facility do most often, 50 percent said most of their fabrication is done in-house; 30 percent said devices are outsourced, and 20 percent said it was a split between the two.
Last week our poll focused on Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month (LLLDAM), which is recognized in April. Of those who responded, 79 percent plan to be an advocate, 16 percent said they’ll wear orange, the designated color of LLLDAM, every Wednesday, and 5 percent are attending a wellness or an athletic event or sharing their favorite resource.
This week’s question is also O&P related. An article in the April issue of The O&P EDGE highlights the challenges of caring for children with limb loss or limb difference and how that care can change over time. Our question is up and in full swing: What are some of the biggest challenges clinicians face when caring for that unique population?
