Our most recent poll question focused on Disability Pride Month, which is this month. Our question: What can you do to recognize the importance of the American Disabilities Act and acknowledge people with disabilities? Of those who responded, 78 percent said find ways to be inclusive and 22 percent said to know disability-first language. Our Twitter followers were unanimous: find ways to be inclusive.
Our poll on patient advocacy said though patient advocates are often part of O&P practices, they often may not have that as their job title. Our question: How does your O&P practice advocate for patients? Thirty-one percent each said they help with insurance paperwork, coordinate with care team, and offer moral support. Six percent said they help find support group. One respondent noted, “I think the ‘Help with insurance paperwork’ is a requirement, not an advocacy project.” Another commented “I think there should be an ‘All of the above’ option.” Another LinkedIn follower said, “Great poll!”
Our followers on Twitter said finding help with support groups was most important.
Finally, we asked about summer reading and what were the most popular genres. Nonfiction reads drew the most votes at 47 percent and mystery and romance each garnered 27 percent of votes.
And speaking of our latest poll, it’s a three-part topic on O&P facilities and their patient’s care. Part one’s question—How often should O&P facilities check in on their patients?—is up and in full swing.
