The Utah Innovation Fund invested $350,000 in the Biologic Input Output Systems (BIOS) seed round to support the development of a platform that transforms how prosthetic devices interact with the human nervous system. BIOS is developing a technological interface that intercepts peripheral nervous system signals and interprets them into natural prosthesis movement and touch perception, which the company hopes will reduce the abandonment rates of prosthetic devices.
In March, the BIOS system was granted Breakthrough Device Designation from the US Food and Drug Administration. Breakthrough Device Designation expedites the review of innovative technologies that can improve the lives of people with life-threatening or irreversibly debilitating diseases or conditions.
BIOS was founded in 2021 by Josh Miller, Tim Miller, Jacob George, and Wendy Huang.
