Joanne Smith, MD, president and CEO of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, Chicago, was named one of 50 of the Most Influential Clinical Executives for 2019, according to the healthcare business news website, Modern Healthcare.
Smith was ranked 42nd for her work in guiding the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab staff as they adjusted to life in the new research hospital location with a unique rehabilitation services care model where clinicians and researchers work side by side, according to Modern Healthcare. She has turned her attention to assessing patient recovery.
The Ability Lab spent $6 million and eight years developing and refining the Ability Quotient, an outcomes-based measurement tool. Smith plans to offer the tool to the industry at no charge because of the impact it could have on patients, the website said.
