Texas passed HB 426 to expand CRO access for children with Medicaid benefits. The legislation will go into effect on September 1.
Ottobock, Hanger, and members of the Texas O&P coalition were instrumental in advocating for the bill. The organizations worked together to raise awareness, meet with legislators, and rally community support, including organizing a Capitol Day in April with patients, clinicians, and advocates across the state.
“For parents across Texas, HB 426 removes unnecessary obstacles and ensures their children can receive the care they need,” said Katie Toth, CPO, director of education and research, Surestep.
“This is a win not just for our field, but for every parent in Texas navigating a scary and uncertain diagnosis,” added Russ Lundstrom, director of clinical research and services, Ottobock. “We’re grateful to lawmakers for prioritizing early intervention and for recognizing the life-changing role orthotic care plays in child development.”
