Aside from patients with jobs that don’t offer paid time off for appointments, research shows that “patients who are in the young-adult age category, lack personal transportation, have a low socioeconomic status, and are uninsured or insured by Medicaid are the most likely to chronically miss appointments.”1
O&P patients may also share a common condition that leads to skipped appointments: a history of trauma, including adverse childhood experiences (ACES), that can affect their feelings about their medical care and health choices.
