The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC) assumed the task of creating and managing the standards for pedorthic precertification education following a decision by the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education to place the standards on hiatus.
A task force of subject matter experts drafted the standards and course requirements, which were approved by ABC’s board of directors in July. ABC is accepting applications from interested course providers, who will be listed on the ABC website after the four-to-six-week approval process.
“The creation of pedorthic precertification standards provides a pathway to certification for anyone interested in entering the pedorthic profession. Not having a pathway to certification was detrimental to not only the pedorthic profession but to the O&P profession as well,” ABC said.
