Martin Bionics, Oklahoma City, has been selected by R&D Magazine as a recipient of its 2019 R&D 100 Award for the Socket-less Socket interface technology.
The Socket-less Socket represents a shift from the standard of care in how prosthetic limbs attach to users. Through working with NASA in helping create exoskeleton suits for space and military applications, Martin Bionics founder Jay Martin, CP, FAAOP, created the prosthetic socket technology that uses lightweight conforming and breathable fabrics to provide a hammock-like fit.
Since its inception in 1963, the R&D 100 Awards recognize the 100 most technologically significant products introduced during a calendar year.
