The National Association for the Advancement of Orthotics and Prosthetics (NAAOP) released a webcast in which Peter Thomas, JD, general counsel for NAAOP, discussed the results reported to date of mid-term elections and their impact on the healthcare policy landscape, including the impact they will have on O&P policy, and the status of the Limb Loss and Preservation Registry (LLPR) and importance of participation.
Based on the makeup of the House with a slight Republican majority and a close split in the Senate, Thomas said bipartisanship will be necessary in most instances to move any significant legislation. He also stressed the importance of Congress passing a bill to fund the federal government, which will provide a legislative vehicle on which to attach other legislative priorities, such as telehealth extensions, fixes to the Medicare physician fee schedule, and other healthcare priorities.
Thomas also shared the current state of the Limb Loss and Preservation Registry and said NAAOP strongly encourages its provider members and friends to join the LLPR as soon as possible. For more information and to join the LLPR, please contact [email protected].
