According to Tami Beatty, event planner, nearly 1,000 students have successfully completed the course in the 11 months that The Summit has been held. Marketing Manager Mark Ford welcomed the 21 men and six women attending the April 22-23 course with a brief discussion of Ohio Willow Wood's goals in providing this educational opportunity. "We want to be the best learning facility in the industry," he said. Practitioners are introduced to other practitioners, instructors, facility workers, and patients from the clinical segment of The Summit. A tour of Ohio Willow Wood allows class members to follow the progression from blanks or raw materials to a finished product. Questions are encouraged and visitors seem happy to oblige. "There is no outsourcing," noted spokeswoman Meredy Fullen. Ohio Willow Wood products and components are fully manufactured at the Mt. Sterling plant. Rigorous machine testing and a cadre of amputee users promote continued refinement in the product line. Day One of The Summit primarily covers the Alpha Liner. Day Two is "Foot Day": Pathfinder, Impulse, Earthwalk, and other feet or foot/ankle combinations, as well as the GeoFlex knee and various related components are discussed. Several written tests during the two day course ensure students are learning and retaining new information. Phillip Harrison, CP, and Larry Corley, educational specialist, lead the group. Interested?
