Kaia Halvorson, CPO, LPO, has been named director of orthotics for Hanger Orthopedic Group Inc., Bethesda, Maryland. In the newly created position, Halvorson will be responsible for directing clinical standards for Hanger's orthotics business nationwide. "With the addition of Halvorson, Hanger has elevated the clinical prowess of its orthotics business from device delivery to a partner in the continuum of care," the company stated. "Halvorson joins Hanger's Vice President of Prosthetics Kevin Carroll, CP, and Troy Farnsworth, CP, director of Hanger's National Upper Extremity Program, in providing a superior level of prosthetic and orthotic expertise and clinical care to Hanger patients nationwide." "Kaia has extensive experience in clinical program development and product commercialization," said Ivan R. Sabel, CPO, Hanger Orthopedic Group chairman of the board and CEO. "She will provide an invaluable resource to the organization in working with our practitioners to advance the science and practice of orthotics." With the orthotics industry experiencing rapid technological developments, the addition of the director of orthotics position could not have been created at a more opportune time, noted Hanger. "I can't think of a more exciting time to be involved in this profession," said Halvorson. "It will be thrilling to see new technological breakthroughs emerge, further advancing our patient care techniques and outcomes. We are just beginning to tap into the power of merging technology and orthotics. Introductions of stance control orthoses and the initial developments of 'myo-orthotics' have brought innovative opportunities and solutions that enhance the lives of our patients." Before joining Hanger Orthopedic Group, Halvorson was the clinical coordinator and consultant for Seattle Systems, Poulsbo, Washington, where she provided clinical and technical support to prosthetists, orthotists, physicians, distributors, and allied health professionals. Halvorson has ten years of clinical experience, with an emphasis on pediatric, trauma, and spinal cord injury care. Halvorson has four years of managerial experience as the director of orthotics for Harborview Medical Center, Seattle, Washington, and six years experience as a faculty member, University of Washington Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Seattle. Halvorson received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Washington Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics in June 1993. She completed her residency in orthotics at Boston Children's Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts, and her prosthetic residency at United Prosthetic Inc., Boston. Halvorson will work from her office in Seattle.
