Cynthia L. Feldmann has been elected to the Board of Directors of Hanger Orthopedic Group Inc., Bethesda, Maryland, the company announced. Most recently, Feldmann was a partner with the global accounting firm of KPMG, LLP. She joined KPMG in 1994 as a partner and national director of the firm's Medical Technology Practice. Among her accomplishments was leading the Boston Audit Committee Institute Roundtable, which was created to share audit committee and corporate governance best practices. Previously she had worked 15 years for the accounting giant Coopers & Lybrand, ultimately becoming a partner-in-charge of the National Life Sciences Practice. Feldmann fills a vacancy created when Dr. Risa Lavizzo-Mourey resigned in order to handle the increased responsibilities created by her recent appointment as president and chief executive officer of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Princeton, New Jersey. "Ms. Feldmann's excellent credentials and experience make her well-suited for joining Hanger's Board of Directors," said Chairman/CEO Ivan R. Sabel, CPO. "We are very pleased to be able to attract her to our Board and look forward to the contributions she will make to our company. At the same time, we will miss Dr. Lavizzo-Mourey, but do understand that the commitments of her new position make it impossible for her to continue on our Board. Dr. Lavizzo-Mourey has served Hanger unselfishly and made many valuable contributions. We certainly wish her well in her new endeavors."
