Benchmark Names Williams President, COO

Benchmark Medical Inc., Malvern, Pennsylvania, has appointed Eric Williams as president and chief operating officer, reporting to Chairman and CEO Ronald Hiscock, effective October 13. Williams is the former senior vice president of operations for the Outpatient Division of HealthSouth, headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama.

"Eric joins Benchmark with a proven track record, successfully leading a business comprising approximately 300 outpatient rehabilitation, diagnostic, and surgery centers with gross revenues in excess of $300 million," said Hiscock. Williams will be accountable for leading and managing approximately 400 outpatient facilities across 17 states, including three operating regions, clinical services, and sales and marketing.

Williams earned a bachelors degree in operations and logistics management at Michigan State University, East Lansing, in 1988. With an interest in healthcare, he began his career with the global healthcare firm Baxter International, Deerfield, Illinois, as an analyst in its custom sterile packaging business. After a series of promotions within Baxter's Custom Sterile Division, he then entered Baxter's physical therapy business (the forerunner to Caremark), becoming operations manager in 1991.

In 1992 he became business development manager in charge of designing and implementing marketing plans for Baxter's largest market: Chicago, Illinois. He then moved back into operations in 1994, overseeing facility operations for Caremark's downtown Chicago centers. In 1995, with the purchase of Caremark's rehab business by HealthSouth, Williams continued to move up through the organization, taking on additional responsibilities both in terms of product lines and added geographic coverage in his most recent role of senior vice president, operations.

"Eric brings expertise in managing all facets of the business as it relates to outpatient rehabilitation and diagnostic and surgery services," according to a statement from Benchmark, which added, "His multi-site management, sales and marketing, joint venture, and clinical services skills will enhance Benchmark's foundation as the third largest provider of outpatient rehabilitation and the largest outpatient rehabilitation private practice in the United States."
