The Pedorthic Footwear Association (PFA) is holding its 47th Annual Symposium and Exposition October 20-23 in Indianapolis, Indiana. This year's symposium is entitled "Pedorthics: In Sickness and In Health," and guarantees a program that will rev engines with rousing speakers, lively Technical Workshops and Exhibits, and the attractions of Indianapolis, noted the organization. Three plenary-session speakers and 21 additional presenters are on the program. PFA has also set aside dedicated time during the annual gathering for registrants to visit the Exhibit Hall, which this year will host 160 booths. "The speaker line-up is excellent," says PFA executive director Brian Lagana, "which means the presentations side of the Symposium will be strong as will the products side. Given the many technological advances in the equipment and materials available to certified pedorthists, it's essential to stay up to date on what the manufacturers have to offer. I think the Indianapolis Symposium presents terrific educational opportunities, and I'm very much looking forward to it." Plenary-session speakers include runner John Bingham, musher Libby Riddles, and business executive Robert Stevenson, each a nationally known speaker with a special area of expertise. Several sessions in Indianapolis will be offered twice, according to PFA director of education Cynthia Emmel Mullaly. "That's in direct response to members' requests," she notes. "In the past few years, a sizable number of attendees have vocalized the fact that, while it's important to have choices among sessions, there are usually a few 'core' sessions that they had to miss because the session was only offered once. This year, we're trying to accommodate people by giving them two opportunities for certain sessions. To be effective, education has to be responsive to people's needs." For those who love spending time on the green, the Pedorthic Footwear Foundation will hold its second annual fundraising golf tournament the day before the Symposium begins. The 2005 tournament will be held at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in Indianapolis, on Wednesday, October 19, 2005, beginning at 7:30AM. Details on the tournament, including a registration form, will be posted on PFA's web site, www.pedorthics.org Downtown Indianapolis, where the Symposium will be held, has dynamic attractions, museums, theaters, shopping, restaurants, and nightlife.
