Winter, an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin whose tail fell off after
she was trapped in a crab-trap line, has been featured in the
international media since her rehabilitation began at the
Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA), Florida. Now, CMA has released an
hour-long documentary DVD, Winter, The Dolphin that Could!
that recounts Winter’s harrowing rescue saga, healing journey, and
encounters with the O&P professionals who built for her a
high-tech prosthetic tail fluke. The DVD also details how the
volunteer work of Kevin Carroll, CP, FAAOP, vice president of
prosthetics for Hanger Orthopedic Group, Bethesda, Maryland, and
Dan Strzempka, CPO, in Winter’s case led to life-changing
connections and innovations for humans with amputations.
