Orthopedic Arts Laboratory, Brooklyn, New York, is conducting a private study on sexuality in persons with limb amputation.
“A recent study showed that many people maintain rich, active sex lives well into their eighties,” said lead researcher Stephan Manucharian, CP. “Because of the sensitive nature of the subject matter, there are very few studies on sexuality among amputees. It is important to investigate this topic in order for healthcare professionals to decide if sexual counseling should be included in the amputee-rehabilitation process.”
Manucharian is currently seeking to recruit approximately 200 persons with limb loss to fill out an anonymous two-page, five-minute survey. He will later seek a control group of respondents with intact limbs.
