Paramount Pictures, Hollywood, California, has announced a casting call for an amputee woman for the latest film by Joel and Ethan Coen, directors of hit movies including No Country for Old Men and Fargo. The woman required, who must be missing at least part of her left arm, would serve as a photo double in the upcoming True Grit, a remake of the 1969 John Wayne film of the same name. A photo double is an actor who resembles a star well enough to stand in for him or her in shots that don’t show the face or require perfect resemblance.
According to extras casting director Debi DeLisi, the film will be told from the viewpoint of 14-year-old “Mattie Ross,” whom she calls “a simple, tough-as-nails young woman. Her steely nerves and straightforward manner are a shocking contrast to the way women behaved in the early century. She’s possessed of true grit and plenty of determination.”
The photo double needed is a woman who is approximately five feet, eight inches tall, weighs about 138 pounds, and has a slender to medium build. The film will be shooting in Austin, Texas, but casting director Debi DeLisi, who released the casting call, stressed, however, that she is “open to various looks” and “open to nationwide submissions.” She encourages women who are interested in the part to apply right away.
“Send photos, measurements, and contact information to [email protected],” she instructed. “Photos should be non-glamorous, simple snapshots (including face and body. It’s best to wear a tank top and shorts). Measurements should include height, weight, bust, waist, and hips. Include sizes, such as shoe, dress, pants, etc. Include age, phone number, and place of residence. Appropriate candidates may also call our office at 512.637.6775.”
