South African swimmer Natalie du Toit clinched three gold medals in the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi, India: the100m butterfly para sport S9, 100m freestyle para sport S9, and the 50m freestyle para sport S9. She has held the 50m and 100m freestyle Commonwealth title for elite athletes with a disability since Manchester, England, in 2002, has 11 Paralympic gold medals, and competed against able-bodied athletes in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
According to an article in the Hindustan Times, New Delhi, India, du Toit said that the New Delhi Commonwealth Games would be her last and that she would retire after the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England.
