OPAF and The First Clinics, founder of the First Volley Tennis Clinics, scored a $10,000 grant from the national charitable foundation of the United States Tennis Association, USTA Serves. The grant represents the fourth time in five years that First Volley has been awarded by this division of the USTA.
The funds will allow OPAF and The First Clinics to host at least five First Volley Adaptive Tennis clinics across the country with collaborator, Shriners Hospital for Children. The clinics are aimed to encourage persons with amputations and others with physical challenges to try their tennis skills through drills and live ball action with certified professional First Volley instructors. Ages of players range from five to 80; skill levels vary from beginners to league tennis players.
“We are so honored to have been selected again by USTA Serves as a recipient of one of their grants,” said Robin Burton, OPAF executive director. “These funds will allow Shriners patients and other attendees to learn or re-learn tennis skills and get them involved in an active lifestyle again.”
