The Board of Certification/Accreditation, International (BOC) has elected its 2012 executive committee, and selected two new members for its board of directors, effective January 1, 2012.
John Kenney, BOCO, vice president of Ongoing Care Solutions, Laguna Hills, California, was elected chairman. Kenney has been a member of the BOC board since 2007. Kenney has previously served as secretary, treasurer, and vice chair of the BOC board.
Other individuals elected to the BOC board include the following:
- Vice chair: Jim Hewlett, BOCO, CO, CII, author and instructor, OandPEdu.com
- Secretary: Jeff Hedges, president of R. J. Hedges & Associates, New Florence, Pennsylvania
- Treasurer: Bill Powers, retired chief operating officer of the American Nurses Association and retired Air Force Medical Service Corps officer
- Member-at-large (re-elected): Jim Newberry, BOCPO, BOCPD,CPO, facility prosthetic director, Mahnke’s Orthotics Prosthetics, Oakland Park, Florida
The BOC executive committee will serve for a one-year term beginning in January. Sharon Nichelson, COF, CMF, who served as chairwoman of the BOC Board for two terms, 2010 and 2011, will remain on the executive committee as immediate-past chairwoman.
In addition to the executive committee elections, current board members Hewlett and Terri McLeod, COF, CMF, CFm, were re-elected to second terms. McLeod is the manager of boutique services at the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Breast Center, New York, New York.
Newly elected board members include Ronnie Bias, BOCPO, CPO, CPed, and Scott Lane, who will serve as the public member. The public member represents consumers of BOC certificants’ services.
Bias owns two O&P facilities in Louisiana.
Lane lost his leg in May 2010 as a result of a motorcycle accident. He has become active in the amputee community, most recently serving as a volunteer counselor at the Amputee Coalition’s Paddy Rossbach Youth Camp.
