The Amputee Coalition presented preliminary results of its Well-Being Initiative at the 2012 Annual Meeting & Scientific Symposium of the American Academy of Orthotists & Prosthetists (The Academy).
On March 23, Stephen T. Wegener, PhD, ABPP, associate professor and director of rehabilitation psychology, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, and chair of the Amputee Coalition’s Scientific and Medical Advisory Committee, presented the preliminary findings from the pilot of a new initiative being developed by Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the Amputee Coalition. Results from the pilot study suggest that prosthetists can play an important role in the emotional well-being of their patients, if given the appropriate tools. These results will be used to further refine the initiative and inform its dissemination with the orthotic and prosthetic community.
The pilot study was supported by an educational grant from Össur Americas, Foothill Ranch, California.
