William “Bill” Peterson, CPed, Tucson, Arizona, passed away May 8, 2012, after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 68.
Peterson had more than 35 years of pedorthic experience, including orthotic design and manufacturing, and patient care. He was the president and founder of Foot Fitness pedorthic and performance centers, with offices in Tucson, and Newport, Rhode Island.
From 1960 to 1978, Peterson was a member of the U.S. Ski Team, a professional skier, cyclist and water skier. In the 1980s-1990s, he designed and patented three direct-mold pillow orthotics systems, which he first introduced to the ski industry in 1979. In 2008, he produced a new orthotic system with 3D laser scanning, CAD/CAM, and computer CNC manufacturing. He also became active in the cycling community later in life, and is recognized for his work in custom footbeds in cycling shoes and bicycle cleat alignment.
Peterson is survived by his wife, Susan Winder Peterson.
