The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC) has awarded the William D. Beiswenger Volunteer Award to Donald D. Virostek, CPO, to acknowledge his extraordinary volunteer work supporting ABC’s mission and for embodying the spirit of the award. Virostek received the award at the 39th American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (the Academy) Annual Meeting & Scientific Symposium in Orlando, Florida.
The William D. Beiswenger Volunteer Award was established in 2000 to honor its first recipient William Beiswenger, CPO, FAAOP, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, for his outstanding record of volunteerism and his commitment to the ABC mission. The award was created to recognize volunteers who demonstrate dedicated service to ABC and the promotion of its mission to provide the highest standards of excellence in patient care. It has only been given out five times since its inception.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Don on several of ABC’s exam committees and the ABC board of directors,” said ABC President Timothy E. Miller, CPO. “He has always put in the extra effort and he has demonstrated the leadership and volunteerism that is ABC.”
Virostek began his service to ABC in 1996 as an examiner for the clinical patient management (CPM) examinations. He has served on the prosthetic exam development committee, the CPM administration committee, and the professional credentialing committee. He was chosen to serve on the ABC board of directors in 2006 and has served for seven years including a term as president in 2012.
“I’m extremely honored to be selected for this award,” said Virostek. “Knowing the quality and dedication of the previous recipients, I feel blessed to be considered in their company.”
