The Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC) has announced that James L. Hewlett, BOCO, CO, has been elected executive committee chair of its board of directors, effective January 1.
Hewlett joined the BOC board in 2008, having served as member-at-large and two terms as vice chair prior to his current appointment. He has volunteered with BOC as a subject matter expert and beyond his service on the board of directors, has volunteered in many capacities including the test development and review processes. He was BOC’s first male certified mastectomy fitter. He also has been a BOC representative on the O&P Alliance. As owner of Yuma Brace & Splint, Arizona, for 11 years, Hewlett has hands-on experience with facility accreditation and Medicare compliance.
“Jim has helped shepherd BOC to a prominent place in the credentialing community,” said Claudia Zacharias, MBA, CAE, BOC president and CEO. “We look forward to continued success with him at the helm.”
The executive committee is tasked with leading BOC’s strategic efforts, hiring and providing ongoing support to the president and CEO, and providing financial oversight of the organization. Joining Hewlett on the board’s executive committee are:
- Immediate past chair: John P. Kenney, MURP, BOCO
- Vice chair: R. Jeffrey Hedges, CDME
- Secretary: William J. Powers, MBA, LFACHE
- Treasurer: James Newberry Jr. BOCPO, BOCPD, CPO
- Member-at-large: Mark L. Parris, Pharm D, RPh, COF
Stepping down from the board, after eight years of service, is Sharon Nichelson, CMOF, who has served as immediate past chair for two years after two years as chairwoman.
