The Digital Resource Foundation for the Orthotics and Prosthetics Community Virtual Library Project, commonly called the O&P Virtual Library, has recently been updated with 20 additional years of complete and searchable historic journals. Recent additions from the journal Orthotics and Prosthetics include volume seven, published in 1953, through Volume 27, published in 1973. The American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) published the journal from 1946 through 1988. Earlier volumes went under the names The Journal of OALMA (Orthopedic Appliance and Limb Manufacturers Association) (1946-1951), and the Orthopedic & Prosthetic Appliance Journal (1952-1967). The name was ultimately changed to Orthotics and Prosthetics in 1967.
The literature preservation project for the O&P profession contains the complete collections of the Journal of Prosthetics and Orthotics; Clinical Prosthetics and Orthotics; Journal of the Association of Children’s Prosthetic and Orthotic Clinics; Inter-Clinic Information Bulletin; Orthotics and Prosthetics; The Orthopedic Appliance Journal; and Artificial Limbs: A Review of Current Developments.
Paul Prusakowski, CPO, LPO, FAAOP, the library’s curator, has requested assistance in locating missing resources for inclusion in the library. The list of missing journals includes:
- 1967: Orthopedic & Prosthetic Appliance Journal/Orthotics and Prosthetics. Missing March (Issue one). This issue marks the transition between the two journals.
- 1959: Orthopedic & Prosthetic Appliance Journal. Missing March (Issue one).
- 1958: Orthopedic & Prosthetic Appliance Journal. Missing March (Issue one).
- 1952: Orthopedic & Prosthetic Appliance Journal. The library includes March, September, and December; however, it is unclear what a complete set should include as it is not marked with a volume or issue number.
- 1951: Journal of OALMA. The library includes July, August, and a December issue that is missing pages 22 and 23.
- 1950: Journal of OALMA. Missing all issues.
- 1949: Journal of OALMA. Missing all issues.
- 1948: Journal of OALMA. Missing all issues.
- 1947: Journal of OALMA. Missing all issues.
- 1946: Journal of OALMA. Missing all issues.
