Mark Muller, MS, CPO, FAAOP, has been named the new chair of the O&P department at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH). Muller joined CSUDH in 2006. He developed new curricula in gait and biomechanics, and worked to upgrade all course objectives.
Prior to CSUDH, Muller worked in private practice in San Diego, served as education manager for Össur Americas, Foothill Ranch, California, and taught at Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center (NUPOC). He has lectured extensively in the United States and is past president of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists. Muller earned his certificate in O&P from NUPOC, his master’s degree in instructional technology from California State University, Fullerton, and a bachelor’s degree in material science and engineering from Stony Brook University.
Muller replaces Scott Hornbeak, MBA, CPO, who had been director of the program since 1994. Hornbeak will remain on as a senior faculty member.
“Under Scott’s guidance, the O&P program at CSUDH has steadily grown over the past 22 years and continues to be a major influence in O&P education with approximately one out of every 13 U.S. practitioners being a CSUDH alumni,” Muller said. “We plan to continue Scott’s dreams as we expand the program into new areas and new technologies.”
CSUDH’s three-year plan for the O&P department is to implement an assistant-level curriculum, a post-professional master’s program, increase evidence-based practice and clinical research, utilize additive manufacturing, and experiment with new interface designs.
