See Medicare Claims Manual Chapter 15 section 20.3 and the medicare minute video below: In the narrative field (Box 19) for each line we write “salvage claim due to …..(the reason for the salvage. i.e. death, patient refused delivery, condition changed, cannot contact patient for delivery). We also remove all codes for parts that we can return or use on another device like unused knees and feet, liners, socks, etc.

I was wondering if anyone can point me to the chapter in the Medicare manual

regarding billing for refused custom made orthoses. I’m not sure if it’s

still the same as billing the date of death and have been unable to find

anything current.
