Received a very strange letter/request today & was wondering if others have
experience or knowledge to share. An audit/accounting firm called Pershing
Yoakley & Assoc (PYA) sent a letter stating that WV PEIA insurance
contracted with them to audit DME and they want every single file for every
single PEIA patient we’ve seen for the last year. No patient names were
provided, no claim numbers, NOTHING, just a request for “all claims that
were coded, billed and paid” to PEIA for the last year. Although the letter
says that they have a signed business assoc contract with PEIA, no such copy
was included. Oh, and the kicker, we have 1 week to produce all of this!
This is absolutely the most asinine thing I’ve ever seen. It’s either pure
spam or pure stupidity and I’m hoping it’s the former. Today is Saturday, so
I cannot contact AOPA or our attorney until Monday. Just reaching out to
see if others have experienced something similar. This just seems surreal.
