I am not sure if anyone has read the recent report to the
House and Senate leadership concerning the Medicare RAC statistics, but I felt
it was necessary to let everyone know about the encouraging report. It says that, in one year, Medicare recouped
$797.4 million in overpayments, but $141.9 million was paid back to providers
after their appeals were overturned. It
also says that DMEPOS providers appealed the largest number of claims and of
those, 58.9 percent were successfully appealed in the providers favor.
This means that DMEPOS providers are steadily fighting more
and more. In doing so, our appeals are
overturned; which proves that the new Medicare auditing approach does not work. The more we fight, the more progress will be
made.
