A physical therapist called and asked me about orthotic options for managing
a patient with severe hip flexion contractures. She said one knee is all
the way into his chest and the other hip is at about 85degrees. The patient
also has knee and ankle flexion contractures bilaterally. She said the
patient does gain some ROM over prolonged manual stretch, and the patient
states he has been stretched out almost back to neutral at another rehab
facility. I don’t know much about the patient, except that he is
quadraplegic and has osteopenia.
Does anyone have experience with orthotic management of hip flexion
contractures (or other forms of management)?
I’d appreciate any feedback.
