PTB Suspension

Kevin Dowling Prosthetist MBAPO

Dear Colleagues

I work as a prosthetist in the North of England…. until recently we have

used a hosiery type suspension (made by Scholl) for a small number of female

PTB wearers….I’m not sure if these are used at all outside of the UK but

basically it is an elastic garment which stretches over the whole prosthesis

and is fastened to a suspender belt at about mid thigh level (basic but highly

regarded by users !). They were produced by Scholl and designed specifically

for PTB suspension. Recently Scholl stopped producing them and we are having

difficulty finding something to replace them with.

We have looked at several “compression” type garments as a replacement but

with little success ….most stretch along their length within a short space

of time and are just not designed for suspending a PTB.

I wonder if anyone uses a similar type of garment and could help out with

some details. Many Thanks.

Regards

Kevin Dowling
