Ilizarov for extending arthrogrypotic knees?

Beverly Cusick

Hello colleagues. I need some help.

I recently saw a 4 y.o. body with severe arthrogryposis and knee flexion

contractures approaching 50 degrees. He is ambulatory with KAFOs and his

parents have been advised that his contractures can be reduced with 3 or 4

months of skeletal traction. As they have no contacts with whom to discuss

this intervention, and I have no experience with its use for this dx, I

wonder if anyone can help them to determine that this course of traction

will be worth the risks for their son. They need to make their decision and

plans by about December 14 if they choose to proceed.

Also, does anyone know of an organization or support group for parent’s of

children with arthrogryposis?

Many thanks and happy holidays.
