Before we get to our Thanksgiving poll results, here are a few fun facts about the holiday. According to History.com, colonists and the Wampanoag tribe shared an autumn harvest feast in 1621 in Plymouth, Massachusetts, that is widely acknowledged as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations. Some historians, however, have argued that Florida, not Massachusetts, may have been the true site of the first Thanksgiving in North America.
If you’re thinking the main dish was turkey, think again. The Wampanoag brought deer, and there would have been plenty of local seafood (mussels, lobster, and bass) plus the fruits of the first pilgrim harvest, including pumpkin. No mashed potatoes, though. The vegetable hadn’t quite arrived from England yet.
Of those who responded to our Thanksgiving question on LinkedIn—save for eating, what’s your main role when it comes to Thanksgiving dinner—24 percent said they were hosting the dinner; 48 percent they help to prep and cook; 19 percent they help to clean up after dinner; and 10 percent said they mainly watch football on television.
An article in the November issue of The O&P EDGE, Pedorthic Practice in the Retail Shoe Business, highlights how the footwear market has changed over the years, which made us think more about the shoes we wear. We wanted to know what our followers found most comfortable to wear after work. 72 percent said sneakers; 16 percent said sandals; 8 percent said flip-flops and 4 percent said slippers.
Since Black Friday and Cyber Monday are about to begin, our current question is how far along our followers are when it comes to holiday shopping.
Our question: “Have you started your holiday shopping?” is up and in full swing. So far, most of our followers say they’ve at least started buying gifts.
Tell us what you think. We’d love to hear from you.
