The European Pain Federation (EFIC) and German pharmaceutical company Grünenthal have awarded a grant for a research project focusing on phantom pain among people with lower-limb amputations. The project was one of five winning grants that will receive funding as part of the biennial EFIC-Grünenthal Grant that supports young scientists in their quest to turn creative ideas into research projects that deliver life-changing pain management approaches.
Robin Bekrater-Bodmann won for her research concept, prosthesis embodiment induced by multimodal sensory feedback: neural correlates and its potential for the treatment of phantom limb pain in individuals with lower-limb amputations.
The value of the grant is €200,000 (roughly $254,720 USD). The EFIC research committee reviewed 61 applications and selected five projects for funding. Winners will be recognized during the opening ceremony of the 11th Congress of the EFIC in Valencia, Spain, September 4-7.
