The Orthotics and Prosthetics Foundation for Education and Research (The O&P Foundation) announced that Geoffrey Balkman, PhD, CPO/L, University of Washington Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, is the recipient of its 2023 Small Grant Award.
The award was given based on Balkman’s research, “Incorporating wearable activity monitors into orthotic care for patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA.)”
“The O&P Foundation was pleased to receive Dr. Balkman’s application as his research will expand the knowledge base surrounding orthotic care for patients with knee osteoarthritis,” said Donald Katz, MHA, CO/L, co-chair of board of directors. “On behalf of The O&P Foundation board of directors, I would like to extend our appreciation to those who submitted applications for The O&P Foundation’s Small Grant Award and those who served as reviewers for this year’s submissions.”
The grant program supports clinically relevant, investigator-initiated O&P research. Awards of up to $25,000 annually are designated for investigators with prior research training or experience. Applications are scored based on the relevance of the research topic, merit of the research design, and appropriateness of the personnel and environment.
