Effective January 1, 2006, all applicants and candidates for the
Certified Orthotic FitterTM (COFTM) will be
required to pass both the Video Practical Exam (VPE) and the
Multiple Choice Exam (MCE) to achieve certification. COF
candidates, who pass the MCE exam in November 2005, will be exempt
from the VPE requirement. The Board for Orthotist/Prosthetist
Certification (BOC) recognizes the important role of scope of
practice of the COF and has, since 2000, offered the only
accredited certification in this expanded area of practice. Thus,
COFs are “independent practitioners,” with a demonstrated level of
competence and professionalism.
