Marlo Ortiz Velazquez del Mercado will be awarded the Blatchford Prize for his M.A.S.® method of transfemoral socket fitting during the 12th World Congress of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) July 29-August 3 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The award, established by the Blatchford family to honor the memory of Brian Blatchford, is awarded to a person with an outstanding record of innovative achievement in orthotics and prosthetics. "Marlo's M.A.S. method of transfemoral socket fitting has been judged to be one of the most significant new techniques in the world in the past triennium that results in better prostheses or orthoses," said Jim Andreassen, president of Orthotic and Prosthetic Group of America (OPGA), Waterloo, Iowa. "OPGA is proud to have worked with Marlo to develop the curriculum and conduct 33 hands-on M.A.S. Seminars during the past four years, resulting in more than 800 practitioners becoming qualified in the provision of this advanced socket design," he added.
