Prosthetic Orthotic Associates (POA) of Texas, Tyler, held its inaugural First VolleyTM adaptive tennis clinic on October 13 and Bruce McClellan, CPO and owner of POA, was soon talking about scheduling the next clinic. "I wouldn't have missed this for the world," McClellan said. McClellan and his staffwere present for First Volley and worked to make it a good morning for everyone attending. All clinic attendees were given a free First Volley/POA-Texas T-shirt. Participants were fed balls to work on their forehand, backhand, and volley strokes. All participants went home with an Advanta tennis racquet, compliments of World Team Tennis and Billie Jean King, who donated 120 of the racquets to First Volley. The clinic brought together orthotic and prosthetic patients who wanted to test their tennis skills but need some specialized coaching to do so. The Orthotic & Prosthetic Assistance Fund Inc. (OPAF) offers its First Volley clinics to O&P patient care facilities across the country so that they may offer quality tennis instruction to their patients and community. "We hope that we will be able to work with more of the tennis management programs across the country to bring adaptive tennis to students and future teaching pros," said Robin Burton, executive director for OPAF. "Their influence on the game of tennis is huge and will be instrumental in how this program will grow." For more information on the First Volley clinics, contact OPAF: 215.752.5756; rlb@opfund.org
