A group of French physicists have conducted a study that may
help lead to touch-sensitive prostheses that can detect very fine
textures and catch slippery items as they fall from a user’s grip.
The research team, led by Georges Debrégeas at the Centre
National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) École Normale
Supérieure, Paris, developed biomimetic robotic “fingertips”
designed to detect how fingertips process tactile information.
