Ability Prosthetics & Orthotics, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and its founder, Jeff Brandt, CPO, recently contributed to the Dale Yasukawa Memorial Scholarship Fund, maintained by the Orthotic and Prosthetic Assistance Fund (OPAF) and the First Clinics. The scholarship was established in 2001 to honor Dale Yasukawa, CP, who had served as director of prosthetics for the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC), Illinois. Brandt worked with Yasukawa at RIC for two years and has pledged to fund the OPAF scholarship annually.
“I was the fortunate recipient of the Gunther Gehl-Northwestern Scholarship when I attended Northwestern University Prosthetic & Orthotic Center [NUPOC], so I understand the importance of the Dale Yasukawa Scholarship Fund. Dale was very near and dear to my heart, and the money is always needed,” Brandt said.
The Dale Yasukawa Memorial Scholarship was established for full-time O&P-certificate candidates at Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois. The $500 scholarship is intended to defray its recipient’s registration fees at their local Academy meeting and assist in their purchase of books, supplies, and equipment needed for ongoing studies at NUPOC. One scholarship is awarded each spring. The 2009 Dale Yasukawa Scholarship winner is Alex Trumper, CO, of Chicago.
