Hosmer, Campbell, California, is marking its 100th anniversary in the O&P industry.
The company was founded by D.W. Dorrance, who lost his arm in an industrial accident. By 1912, he had designed the first split hook and began manufacturing them fulltime in San Jose, California. These terminal devices were revolutionary in their ability to grip and manipulate objects. In the 1940s, A.J. Hosmer, MD, developed a line of wrist and elbow components that were later added to the Dorrance line when the two companies merged in 1952.
Hosmer joined the Fillauer Companies, Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1996.
