The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is hosting a series of Special Open Door Forum (ODF) calls to allow physicians, prosthetists, and other interested parties to provide feedback on the development of a Lower Limb Prosthesis Electronic Template for possible nationwide use. The template will assist physicians with documenting the physician notes that substantiate the need for a lower-limb prosthesis. This template may also facilitate the electronic submission of medical documentation. At the conclusion of the ODF calls, CMS said it plans to forward the resulting list of clinical elements to the electronic Determination of Coverage (eDoC) workgroup, which is focused on giving practitioners access to payer approved tools.
The first Suggested Electronic Clinical Template for Lower Limb Prosthesis ODF call is scheduled for May 28, 2013, from 2-3 p.m. ET. To sign up for automatic e-mails of ODF schedule updates and to view frequently asked questions, visit the ODF website, www.cms.gov/opendoorforums
