In an era of smartphone-based pedometry, daily step counts are available across a range of populations, with a well-established literature base that has defined the terms and objective step count ranges. This article introduces published observations on step counts among individuals with lower-limb amputations, places these observations in the broader context of observed human activity levels, and discusses those interventions that may or may not ultimately influence activity levels among users of lower-limb prostheses.
