The Orthotic Prosthetic Group of America (OPGA) selected Sheryl Sachs, MSPO, CPO, Dankmeyer, Maryland, as the 2024 O&P Woman of the Year. OPGA presented the award during the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association National Assembly on September 13.
“I hope that my passion and commitment to the O&P profession serves as an inspiration and motivation to other women to make sure their voices are heard, and we have the power to make positive change a reality in and beyond O&P,” Sachs said when accepting the award.
Sachs has been with Dankmeyer since 2011where she completed her residency and now works as a practitioner and residency mentor. She has previously taken on a mentorship role with the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists’ mentoring program, is a member of AOPA’s Government Relations Committee, and the lead advocate for Maryland’s So EveryBODY Can Move initiative. Additionally, Sachs serves on the National
Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE) board of director’s Executive Committee and is the chair of NCOPE’s Residency Standards Committee.
Sachs graduated from the University of Maryland where she earned a dual degree in communication and kinesiological sciences. She earned her Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics (MSPO) at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
“On behalf of OPGA, VGM, and the Woman of the Year selection committee, we wish Sheryl a sincere congratulations on being selected as the 2024 O&P Woman of the Year,” said Adam Miller, vice president of VGM Government Relations. “Sheryl is a shining example of someone who has a positive influence on the O&P profession, and she is more than deserving of this recognition.”
The O&P Woman of the Year award, sponsored by Össur and presented by OPGA, a division of VGM & Associates, is open to all women who work in the O&P profession. A selection committee of four O&P professionals review nominations and select finalists by considering the nominees’ contributions throughout their careers to patients, the community, and the profession.
